About the author

          Melitza Mejia-Centeno is originally from Los Angeles, California and moved to Arizona with her family when she was a teenager.  She recalls the transition to this day.  She had grown up in an entirely homogenous community, everyone was Latino and everyone spoke Spanish.  However, the scene was different in Arizona, here, there was a large white population and she was thrown by the newly found knowledge that not all the Latino kids spoke Spanish.   This was her first experience with the semester's studied concept of otherness.  

          Melitza is currently attending Arizona State University and will be graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in the summer of 2016.  She is pursuing a Master’s Degree and has her eyes set on Midwestern University where she aims be accepted into the Physician Assistant Program.
